Sycamores Residents' Fund

Sycamores is a care home that provides long-term residential, and respite, care for older people and people living with dementia.

The home has three households, each with their own lounge, dining area and kitchenette where residents and family can prepare their own drinks or snacks. We designed the households in one of three lifestyles based on town, country and classical living. Hobbies, interests and local information are represented in the hallway decorations. This is because we recognise that the space in-between places creates more opportunities for conversation and reminiscence.

Daily life tends to centre around the lounges where residents socialise with each other and we hold regular activities. As part of our activity provision, WCS Care employs dedicated Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities. And our Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. We invite relatives to join our trips so families can make new memories together.

The rear garden includes paved areas and a specially designed cycle path for our side-by-side companion bike for two. Our summerhouse can be used with family or friends and is often used as a venue for special events, such as our Santa's grotto.

Sycamores also has a beauty salon offering unisex hairdressing and manicures.

Sycamores care home is the first care home in the UK to benefit from a new circadian lighting system that has been developed to be easy to retro-fit into older buildings without the need to completely rewire the home. Circadian lighting mimics natural daylight to set the body's internal body clock, helping people to be more alert during the day and sleep better at night. It has been proven to support health and wellbeing and WCS Care has experienced significant benefits for residents, particularly for people living with dementia.
